CODE FOR RAMBLES

Rambles set off promptly as stated, with only a few minutes grace allowed.

Leaders unable to take a ramble should appoint a substitute in advance

In adverse weather conditions a specific ramble will only be taken at the leaders discretion:

  • If for reasons of safety it is decided to depart from the
advised programme then a modified alternative should be offered

  • Particularly in a large strung out party care should be taken to walk behind the leader and in front of the back marker

  • People in between should accustom themselves to look over their shoulder at cross roads or forked paths to make sure that those behind have noted the turn off

  • Also if anyone feels that they
are falling too far behind then they should whistle at once to alert those in front to wait a bit until all the party have caught up. In hill or mountain walking, particularly in misty conditions, this procedure is ESSENTIAL

  • It is a condition of membership that a WAIVER FORM must be signed and returned to the Secretary before taking part in club activities.

    SAFETY

    • A WHISTLE should be worn round the neck.

    • A small FIRST AID KIT should be carried.

    • A small torch should be carried.
      Glucose tablets can be useful.

    • NEWSPAPER or SACKING is useful for climbing over barbed wire fences.

    • A survival bag is added protection, but plastic bin bags make adequate substitutes.

The way to go is to the Barrhead Rambling Club
